Zamalek’s dynamic winger Ahmed Mostafa “Zizo” rediscovered his scoring spark for Egypt, netting a crucial goal against Ethiopia on Friday evening at Morocco’s “Al-Arabi Al-Zawali” Stadium.
The strike came during the fifth round of Group One in the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, reigniting his international flair.
Zizo latched onto a brilliant pass from Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, slotting the ball home in the 40th minute to bolster Egypt’s lead. Salah had already fired the Pharaohs ahead in the 31st minute with a goal of his own. This marked Zizo’s third international tally, following strikes against Sudan in the 2021 Arab Cup and Malawi on March 28, 2023, in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The goal shattered a nearly two-year dry spell for Zizo with the national team, a drought that mirrored his club struggles since last scoring for Zamalek against Haras El-Hodoud in the Egyptian League on January 16. With Salah’s assist, Zizo proved he’s back in the groove.
