Ahmed “Mido” weighs in on Chibbi’s right to legal action, calls for Al Ahly and Pyramids cooperation
Ahmed Hossam “Mido,” the former star of the Egyptian national team and Tottenham Hotspur, believes that Moroccan player Mohamed Chibbi, a member of Pyramids FC, has the right to resort to civil courts in the case of assault against him by Egyptian player Hussein El Shahat, a winger for Al Ahly, following the encounter between the two teams in the Premier League on July 23, 2023.
Mido stated via his program “Al Rimontada” aired on Al-Mehwar channel that there is nothing preventing any player from exercising their legal right to resort to the judiciary, even if the matter is mentioned in FIFA regulations.
He added, “The crisis lies in the fact that Egyptian football regulations are unclear, leading to multiple crises, including the suspension of Kahraba in the incident of offensive chants against Zamalek, and also Zamalek’s withdrawal from the Egyptian Super Cup match last season.”
Furthermore, he continued, “Al Ahly issued a statement against the Egyptian Football Association to pressure in El Shahat’s case, demanding that Chibbi be considered in violation of FIFA regulations… It’s natural for Mahmoud El Khatib (Al Ahly’s president) to fight to preserve his club’s rights.”
Mido considered that “the matter is no longer easy, as there is an international player now threatened with imprisonment, and there must be a concerted effort to resolve the crisis, especially as the conflict between Al Ahly and Pyramids is not only on the field but also in the boardroom, and there must be concessions from both sides.”
He continued, “We do not want El Shahat to be sentenced to imprisonment; he is a football player and a father… But being a player in Al Ahly does not mean he is above the law… Pyramids and Mohamed Chibbi should also feel that they have obtained their rights, especially since El Shahat’s punishment with a two-match suspension was meager.”
