Ahmed Diab, President of the Egyptian Clubs Association, has hailed the decision to increase stadium capacity to 20,000 spectators for the Egyptian Premier League and the League Cup for the 2023-2024 season as a significant achievement for the association.
Speaking in a phone call with presenter Hani Hathout on his show “Al Match” broadcasted on Sada El Balad channel, Ahmed Diab stated that the association has assumed its responsibilities, highlighting that the previous allowance for spectators was limited to just 25 individuals per club administration.
Diab continued to explain that the association’s decision will be implemented starting tomorrow, with the match between Pyramids FC and El Ittihad Alexandria marking the commencement of the thirteenth round of the league.
A capacity of 20,000 spectators will be permitted in the stands. Diab urged all club administrations to collaborate with the association to ensure the stands are filled, expressing gratitude to the security authorities and all involved parties for their efforts in increasing the number of spectators in the stadiums.
Furthermore, Ahmed Diab noted that there are stadiums unable to accommodate such numbers of spectators, and a review of these stadiums will be conducted in the upcoming phase.
He stated, “It has not been confirmed yet whether the 20,000 spectators will be divided between the two clubs or if this number represents the total attendance for both teams.”
Diab expressed his hopes to witness 20,000 spectators at all matches, aiming to potentially increase the capacity once again in the future.
Regarding the possibility of adjusting ticket prices to facilitate attendance, Ahmed Diab stated, “Ticket prices cannot be changed at the current time, and we will consider this matter at a later stage.”
