Ahly fires up Zamalek with referee choice for Confederation final: “It’s sweet news”

Peter Waweru

The African Football Confederation (CAF) has selected Kenyan referee Peter Owiro Kamaku to officiate the Zamalek vs. Renaissance Berkane Moroccan final in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The first leg is scheduled for May 12th in Rabat, sparking enthusiasm within the White Castle due to the referee’s performance in Al Ahly’s Champions League matches.

The choice of Kamaku for the Confederation Cup final has instilled confidence within Zamalek, especially considering his commendable performances while officiating Al Ahly’s matches in the Champions League.

The Red Devils have never lost a match under his supervision, igniting excitement within the White Knights to grasp the continental title this season.

Peter Owiro Kamaku, a 41-year-old Kenyan, has officiated 42 matches across various continental competitions and handled a solitary match for Pyramids against Mazembe, which ended in a 1-0 victory for the Egyptian side.

The refereeing team for the Zamalek vs. Renaissance Berkane final includes Kenyan Peter Owiro Kamaku as the referee, assisted by his compatriots Gilbert Kipkoech Cheruiyot and Stephen Elizer Onyango, with Burundian Pacifique Ndabihawenimana as the fourth official.

Tunisian Hichem Guirat will serve as the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), assisted by South African Tom Abongile and Zambian Diana Chikotesha. Djiboutian Mohamed Yassin Younes will act as the general match observer appointed by CAF, while Somali Ali Mohamed Ahmed will supervise the officials.
