Renowned sports commentator Saif Zaher has shed light on the negotiations between Egypt’s Ahly Club and South African international Moeketsi Mokwena, a midfielder for the first team of Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club, as the Red Devils inch closer to securing his services in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Speaking in a televised interview on “OnTime Sports,” Zaher revealed, “Mokwena is being considered as a potential replacement for Malian midfielder Aliou Dieng at Ahly, after his name was brought forward to the club’s officials by the player’s agent, Jaylene.”
“The negotiations between Ahly and Mokwena have already commenced.
However, discussions have been postponed until the next summer transfer window due to the expiry of the player’s contract with Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of the current season,” Zaher continued.
Furthermore, Zaher mentioned, “Ahly sought Percy Tau’s opinion regarding Mokwena, and Tau spoke highly of his compatriot’s exceptional abilities.”
It is worth noting that the 25-year-old player showcased an impressive performance with the South African national team in 2023, drawing attention from several clubs.
Ahly’s pursuit of Mokwena, under the guidance of Tau’s endorsement, underscores the club’s ambition to reinforce its midfield with top-tier talent, setting the stage for a potentially transformative addition to the team ahead of the upcoming season.
The revelation by Saif Zaher adds a new layer of intrigue to Ahly’s transfer strategy, signaling the club’s intent to secure the services of Mokwena and bolster its squad with a player of immense potential and skill, as they aim for further success domestically and on the continental stage.
