Aguerd set for Qatar move as Marseille negotiate deal with Al Sadd

Nayef Aguerd is close to leaving Olympique de Marseille, with Al Sadd in advanced discussions to sign the Morocco international in a deal worth up to 15m euros.

The two clubs are nearing an agreement over the central defender’s transfer, according to Foot Mercato. The proposed arrangement would see Al Sadd pay 4m euros for a loan, with an obligation to buy valued at a further 11m euros.

That would make the overall operation worth 15m euros and allow Marseille to reduce their wage bill while securing a significant future transfer fee.

However, the move has not yet been completed. Once the agreement between the clubs is finalised, Al Sadd will still need to persuade Aguerd to accept the sporting project and continue his career in Qatar.

The defender’s approval is required before the transfer can go through. Aguerd remains under contract with Marseille until 2030, having joined the French club in the summer of 2025.

If there are no last-minute complications, Aguerd could become one of Al Sadd’s leading signings and begin a new chapter of his career in the Qatar Stars League.

The Morocco international, known as one of the Atlas Lions, is valued at 15m euros by Transfermarkt. His annual salary in France is reported to be 4,910,000 euros, equivalent to 3,191,500,000 FCFA.

For Marseille, the proposed deal would provide both immediate financial relief through the paid loan and a guaranteed income if the mandatory purchase clause is activated. For Al Sadd, it would offer the opportunity to bring in a defender who remains contracted to the Ligue 1 club for several more seasons.

The next stage of the process depends on Aguerd’s decision. Although Marseille and Al Sadd are close to terms, the player must agree to the move before the transfer can be formally completed.
