Al Ahly of Cairo is arriving in Algeria with strong intentions to win the African Super Cup, despite not being in peak form. The Egyptian club will face ES Sétif this Saturday at the Stade Mustapha Tchaker in Blida, and its leadership is confident and ambitious.
Speaking to hebdo.ahram, Alaa Abdel-Sadeq, director of football at Al Ahly, emphasized the club’s resilience:
“It’s clear that we are not in our best shape, but we are determined to win the Super Cup.”
His assistant, Waël Gomaa, a club legend and former defender, added:
“We are used to exploits. We are ready to face all difficulties.”
Despite the suspension of the Egyptian Premier League following the tragic incident that claimed 22 lives among Zamalek supporters, the Red Devils remain focused on adding another continental trophy to their cabinet.
Ahmad Ayoub, assistant coach of Al Ahly, acknowledged the challenges:
“Despite the difficult circumstances, Al Ahly, which is a great team, is looking for victory, which will be our goal on Saturday.”
The African Super Cup pits the CAF Champions League winner (ES Sétif) against the CAF Confederation Cup holder (Al Ahly). With both clubs carrying heavy reputations, Saturday’s clash promises intensity and emotion — a true North African derby.
