African strikers shine in Europe’s top leagues

As the 2024/25 season progresses into its decisive phase, African players continue to make their mark across Europe’s five major leagues.

From Mohamed Salah’s dominance in the Premier League to emerging stars in Germany, France, and Italy, African forwards are proving to be among the most prolific goal scorers this season.

Mohamed Salah leads Premier League scoring charts

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah is enjoying one of the best seasons of his career.

The Egyptian forward tops the Premier League’s scoring table with 25 goals in 27 appearances, making him a frontrunner for the Golden Boot.

His closest challengers, Erling Haaland and Alexander Isak, trail with 19 goals each.

Brentford’s Cameroonian star Bryan Mbeumo has also been in fine form, netting 15 goals so far.

He sits fifth in the league’s scoring rankings, just ahead of Chelsea’s Cole Palmer.

Meanwhile, Congolese duo Yoane Wissa (12 goals) and Jean-Philippe Mateta (11 goals) continue to make valuable contributions for Brentford and Crystal Palace, respectively.

The Nigerian-Togolese striker has reached double digits in the league, scoring 10 goals and placing himself among the league’s top marksmen.

Ivorian duo Evann Guessand (Nice) and Hamed Traorè (Auxerre) have also been key figures for their respective clubs, each contributing nine goals this season.

He currently sits second in the Bundesliga scoring charts, trailing only Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane (21 goals).

Borussia Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy has also been a force in Germany, registering 13 goals.

Cameroonian forward Hugo Ekitike, who took over Marmoush’s role at Frankfurt, has scored 12 goals, making him one of the league’s top emerging talents.

Serie A: Lookman maintains his impact
