Africa will be vying for a top award at the FIFA Awards Gala following the unveiling of the full categories and nominees on Thursday.
The lists released by the world football governing body (FIFA) included four African players competing for the FIFA Puskas Awards.
Ghana star Mohammed Kudus, Nigeria’s Paul Onuachu, Uganda’s Dennis Omedi, and Algeria’s Yassine Benzia have all been nominated for the top award.
Kudus, who plies his trade for West Ham United scored a solo goal in the quarterfinal of the Europa League last term, weaving his way through a chunk of Freiburg players from his own half before firing home with his weaker foot.
The goal won West Ham United’s goal of the season, and he will now face competition from his peers from other clubs and countries for the top award.
Paul Onuachu, on the other hand, scored a magnificent goal for Trabzonspor against Konyaspor in Turkey and is vying for the top award.
Uganda’s Dennis Omedi and Algeria’s Yassine Benzia all scored stupendous goals and are in contention for the award.
Meanwhile, Manchester Unoited’s Alejandro Garnacho’s overhead kick against Everton has also been nominated for the top award.
Hassan Al Haydos of Qatar, Inter Milan’s Federico DiMarco, Terry Antonis of Australia, Walter Bou of Argentina, Michaell Chirinos of Honduras and Hull City’s Jaden Philogene complete the list.
The winner will be presented with the award at the FIFA Awards to be held in January 2025.
