FIFA President Gianni Infantino beleives African players are ready for the upcoming 2025 Club World Cup.
Africa will be represented by four clubs, including Wydad Casablanca (Morocco), Al Ahly (Egypt), Esperance (Tunisia), and Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa) at the first ever expanded tournament.
147 African players will feature across 16 clubs from five continents, representing 22 African countries.
“There will be 4 African clubs represented at the FIFA Club World Cup: Al Ahly from Egypt, Wydad from Morocco, Esperance from Tunisia and Mamelodi Sundowns from South Africa,” Infantino said during the 14th CAF Extraordinary Congress in Cairo on Wednesday, March 12.
“There will be 147 African players playing in the FIFA Club World Cup this year. And these 147 African players will play for 16 clubs from five continents, and they will represent 22 African countries in a FIFA World Cup,” he added.
The expanded 32-team competition will run from June 14 to July 13 in the USA.
