Tunis, March 7, 2024: The African Club released an official statement today expressing its objection to the referee appointments for its upcoming match against Union Sportive Monastirienne (USM), scheduled for Saturday.
In the statement, the club raised concerns about the appointment of match officials, citing dissatisfaction with the referees assigned to their previous match against Club Sportif Sfaxien (CSS) and questioning the appointment of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for future matches.
The club highlighted specific grievances regarding the selection of Mr. Saif Al-Wartani as the main referee for a crucial playoff match, noting his lack of international refereeing experience and his limited exposure to high-stakes matches.
Additionally, the club questioned the suitability of Mr. Jalal Al-Sahbani as the VAR referee, emphasizing his lack of participation in official and significant matches.
Furthermore, the club expressed dissatisfaction with the appointment of Mr. Khaled Gueder as the VAR referee without addressing his previous errors during the recent match against CSS.
The statement underscored the club’s commitment to fair play and integrity in football, emphasizing the need for experienced and competent officials to officiate important matches.
The African Club’s protest comes in the wake of growing concerns within the Tunisian football community regarding refereeing standards and the impartiality of match officials.
