Coton Sport de Garoua has significantly advanced towards qualification for the next round of the African Champions League. In their home territory at the Roumdé Adjia stadium, the 2012 vice-champion of Cameroon secured a decisive victory over Stade Malien from Bamako, their opponent in the first leg of the round of 16, with a commanding scoreline of three goals to zero.
The 18-year-old midfielder, Alexis Yougouda Kada, showcased his talent by scoring the first two goals for the northern Cameroonian team in the 13th and 22nd minutes, respectively. Ismaël Mbang, a former member of the second division club Botafogo in Douala, added to the offensive display by scoring the third goal in the 88th minute.
With this commanding lead, Coton Sport will approach the return match in Mali with confidence in less than two weeks. The team, unfortunate finalists in the 2008 Champions League, now stands on the brink of returning to the group stage after a two-year absence.
