Hervé Renard, the French coach, was honored in the first edition of the Africa Top Sports Awards, winning the title of Best Coach of the Year 2012. Renard, the national coach of Zambia, led Chipolopolo to a surprising victory in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations, defeating Ivory Coast in the final on penalties. Despite a less successful performance in the 29th edition of the CAN, where Zambia was eliminated in the first round, Renard’s remarkable achievement in 2012 earned him recognition as one of Africa’s best coaches. Before coaching Zambia, Renard served as Claude Le Roy’s deputy at the helm of the Ghana national team and led them to a third-place finish in the African Nations Championship. He has had a diverse coaching career, including stints with AS Cherbourg and USM Algiers.
