The Moroccan national football team is set to compete in Group 6 of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, kicking off in Ivory Coast on January 13 and continuing until February 11.
Drawn into Group 6 alongside the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, and Tanzania, Morocco aspires to secure the title for the second time in its history, having previously lifted the trophy in 1976 in Ethiopia.
The tournament, hosted in Ivory Coast, features 24 teams divided into six groups, each comprising four teams.
The top two teams from each group, along with the best four third-placed teams, advance to the Round of 16.
Should Morocco top its group, they will play in the Round of 16 on January 30 in San Pedro against the runner-up of Group 5, which includes Tunisia, South Africa, Mali, and Namibia.
A victory would propel them to the quarterfinals, facing the winner of another Round of 16 match between the Group 2 leader (Egypt, Ghana, Mozambique, and Cape Verde) and the third-placed team from Group 1, 3, or 4.
This match is scheduled for February 3 in Yamoussoukro.
If Morocco advances to the semi-finals along this trajectory, they will play on February 7 in Bouaké against the winner from the path consisting of the runner-up from Groups 1 and 3, the Group 4 leader, and the third-placed team from Groups 2, 5, or 6.
In case Morocco qualifies as the group runner-up, they will play on January 28 in San Pedro against the runner-up of Group 2.
A successful progression would lead them to the quarterfinals on February 3 in Bouaké, facing the winner from the match between the Group 1 leader (Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau) and the third-placed team from Groups 3, 4, or 5.
Should Morocco reach the semi-finals via this route, they will play on February 7 in Bouaké against one of the teams qualifying from the path involving the Group 5 leader, Group 4 runner-up, Group 3 leader, and the third-placed team from Group 1 or 2.
If Morocco secures third place in its group, they will play in the Round of 16 against the Group 4 leader or the Group 3 leader.
