Guinea is banking on the readiness of their star striker, Soryho Giressi, to participate in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations despite an injury that forced him to leave the field early during a friendly match against Nigeria in the UAE on Monday.
Coach Kaba Diawara expressed optimism that the Stuttgart striker, who scored 17 goals in the German league this season, trailing only behind Harry Kane in the top scorers’ list, would undergo treatment on Tuesday.
Diawara believes that Giressi’s knee injury, visibly not severe, would not pose a significant threat to his participation in the tournament.
Speaking to journalists in the UAE, where Guinea is preparing for the competition set to kick off in Ivory Coast next Saturday, Diawara said, “He left the field to avoid any risks.
We don’t know the extent of the seriousness now, but it doesn’t seem very serious.
I hope it’s not serious.”
The 27-year-old player left the field in the 27th minute of the match, which Guinea won 2-0 against Nigeria in an international friendly.
Guinea begins its journey in Group C with a clash against Cameroon in Yamoussoukro next Monday.
Giressi’s presence on the field will be crucial for Guinea’s aspirations in the tournament, especially considering his prolific form in the German league.
The team remains hopeful that their star striker will recover swiftly and lead the charge as they aim for success in the Africa Cup of Nations.
