AFCON 2025: Hossam Hassan offers clarity on Mohamed Salah’s condition ahead of Egypt’s continental opener

Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan has lauded Hugo Broos’ South Africa ahead of their crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) clash later today.

The Group B leaders, both unbeaten from their opening fixtures on Monday, will meet at Stade Adrar in a showdown that could shape the group standings.

Hassan acknowledged the strength of Bafana Bafana but insisted Egypt is focused on securing all three points.

“Every match is important, and we respect all the teams. The South African team is one of the strong teams, but we are playing to achieve positive results. We play to win and earn the three points.”

He highlighted Egypt’s experience against South African teams through domestic clubs and past tournaments.

“The way South African national teams play is similar to the clubs’ style, but we are ready. We have faced their clubs multiple times through Al Ahly, Zamalek, and Pyramids.

“We also outperformed South Africa in the 1998 Burkina Faso tournament, and God willing, we will repeat that achievement.”

“All the Egyptian players are ready, especially the goalkeepers. I have confidence in all of them, and they are all capable of guarding the national team’s goal.”

Hassan expressed confidence in his squad, particularly the goalkeepers.

“I trust all the players, and each match requires a different playing style. My role as head coach is to correct any mistakes that may occur during the game.”

Kick-off is set for 15:00 GMT.
