Cameroon coach David Pagou has lauded his team’s effort despite their exit from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) but stressed that they have a bright future.

The Taranga Lions fell 2-0 to hosts Morocco on Friday at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, with Brahim Díaz and Ismael Saibari scoring in each half to secure the Atlas Lions’ place in the semifinals.

Speaking after the match, Pagou acknowledged the challenges his side faced but highlighted the positives from their campaign.

“I am proud of my players. We competed well against Morocco, and we leave the tournament with our heads held high. We faced some difficulties, but we came back well in the second half. The second goal we conceded decided the match,” Pagou said.

“Overall, I am satisfied with the performance. We have a young and new squad, and the players deserve credit for their efforts for the Cameroonian people.”

Pagou also emphasized the potential of his young squad.

“There is a bright future for our young players, many of whom are playing in continental competition for the first time. We have learned many lessons and leave the tournament with a lot of positives,” he added.

Morocco will now face the winner of Saturday’s quarter-final between Nigeria and Algeria in the last four.
