Algeria captain Riyad Mahrez insists his outfit deserved the win against DR Congo in the round of 16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
The Desert Foxes narrowly triumphed over the Leopards in a high-stake clash on Tuesday, earning them a place in the quarterfinals of the continental showpiece.
The much-anticipated clash travelled to extra-time after a pulsating goalless draw in regular time, with Adel Boulbina’s rocket shot strike securing victory for the North African country over DR Congo.
Speaking after the match, the former Manchester City and Leicester City star affirmed his outfit deserved the win considering their performance throughout the game.
“The Congolese team was good, but according to the scenario of the match, we were the ones who deserved to win. We knew how to remain patient and waited for the opportunity” he told beIN SPORTS in an interview.
In high-stake quarterfinals clash on Saturday, January 10, 2025, Algeria will lock horns with the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the Marrakech Stadium, with both teams seeking for a win to secure a place in the semifinals of the tournament.
