Senegal captain Kalidou Koulibaly has expressed great confidence in his outfit ability to triumph over Sudan in the round 16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations despite his absence.
The former Napoli and Chelsea is suspended for the round 16 clash after being sent off in their final group game against Benin, where the Taranga Lions secured a resounding 3-0 victory over the Squirrels.
Koulibaly was initially given yellow card. Following a VAR review, the experienced defender was given the marching orders in the much anticipated clash.
Despite being suspended for the clash, the Al Ahli rock-solid defender insists the side can cope without him.
“There is no fear for the Senegalese national team, as the jersey does not belong to one player, but rather to the people and to all the players present here.”
“Whether I play or not, the most important thing is that we give our all and do everything we can to win the match.”
“I would prefer the Senegalese national team to win even if I am not on the field, because that is more important than anything else.”
“I have complete confidence in this group. I know we are capable of going far. Today we saw what we can offer on the pitch, and we will see what the future holds. I have great confidence in my teammates” he concluded.
