Senegal continued its remarkable AFCON 2025 story in Morocco with another tight 1-0 victory over Mali in the quarter-finals, extending an already historic unbeaten run at the tournament.
The former African Cup of Nations champions, chasing a second continental crown, have now gone 16 consecutive AFCON matches without defeat since January 2022, a streak that underlines their consistency and resilience on the biggest stage.
This run allows Senegal’s Lions of Teranga to equal Nigeria’s mark of 16 unbeaten games in the competition, set between January 1992 and February 2002.
Ahead of them stands only Egypt’s legendary record, as the Pharaohs hold the all-time AFCON benchmark with 24 games without defeat from February 2004 to February 2017, a sequence that ended with their 2-1 loss to Cameroon in the final.
Senegal’s latest win also booked a spot in the semi-finals, where they will face the winner of the Egypt–Ivory Coast clash scheduled for Saturday, adding further intrigue to the chase for Egypt’s long-standing milestone.
