Senegal made a big statement at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Tuesday, thumping Botswana 3-0 in their opening match at the tournament.
On the matchday, Senegal drew first blood in the 40th minute when Nicolas Jackson found the back of the net with a clinical finish.
In the 58th minute, Jackson doubled his tally with another well-taken goal, extending Senegal’s lead to 2-0 and putting them firmly in control of the match.
Despite their best efforts, Botswana struggled to break down Senegal’s resilient defense, and their hopes of a comeback were dashed in the dying moments of the game.
In the 90th minute, Pape Cherif Ndiaye put the final nail in the coffin with a clinical finish to make it 3-0 in favour of Senegal.
