Sadio Mane signed his name to a historic Africa Cup of Nations record with a thunderous winner against Egypt in the 2025 semi-final in Tangier.
The Senegal star struck 12 minutes from time with a low rocket from the edge of the area, sending the Teranga Lions into the final with a 1–0 victory.
Mane’s goal was the 120th of this AFCON edition, making Morocco 2025 the highest-scoring tournament in the competition’s history, according to French statistics outlet Stats Foot. This year’s tally surpassed the previous record of 119 goals set at AFCON 2023 in Ivory Coast, underlining how open and attacking this edition has been
For Mane personally, it was his second goal of the 2025 tournament after he had already scored in the group stage against DR Congo.
Mane played his first game for Senegal in 2012. Mane led Senegal to their first Africa Cup of Nations title in 2022, scoring the decisive penalty in the final and earning Player of the Tournament honors.
The Al Nassr forward has now reached 11 goals in his AFCON career overall, further cementing his status as one of the competition’s modern greats and a decisive figure whenever Senegal chase continental glory.
