Senegal captain Kalidou Koulibaly is focused on securing qualification to the finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations despite a session of their players facing suspension.
The Taranga Lions defeated Mali in the quarterfinals of the tournament, setting up a tricky encounter against Egypt at the continental showpiece.
It promises to be a thrilling clash, as both teams will be yearning for victory to secure a place in the finals of the tournament, being held in Morocco.
Meanwhile, Seven Senegalese players received yellow cards in the round of 16 and quarter-final matches respectively and are at risk of missing either the final or third place game at the continental showpiece.
They must, however, avoid sanctions in their game against Egypt to be able to feature in the final round of games at the tournament.
“We are not focused on yellow cards, and we will try to do everything to get the fewest warnings against Egypt, and our first goal is to reach the Africa Cup of Nations final.”
“We are happy to be in the semi-finals, and whether one player participates or another, we will give 100% of our level to achieve the dream of the Senegalese people.”
The match between Egypt and Senegal is a repeat of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations final in Cameroon, where the Taranga Lions triumphed over the Pharaohs to clinch their first AFCON title.
Besides, the Taranga Lions prevented the North African country from securing a spot in the upcoming 2022 World Cup tournament in Qatar.
