Oswin Appollis delivered a standout performance as South Africa battled to a dramatic 3-2 win over Zimbabwe at AFCON 2025, earning him the Man of the Match award.
In a high-tempo clash at Stade de Marrakech, South Africa started brightly, going ahead through Tshepang Moremi’s precise finish inside the opening 10 minutes. Zimbabwe responded through Tawanda Maswanhise, whose composed strike drew them level before half-time and shifted the momentum back their way.
After the break, Lyle Foster restored South Africa’s lead with a well-placed header, only for an unfortunate Aubrey Modiba own goal to bring Zimbabwe back to 2-2. Appollis, who had been lively throughout, continued to torment the Zimbabwean defence with his movement and link-up play.
His persistence paid off in the closing stages when South Africa won a late penalty following a VAR review for handball against Marvelous Nakamba.
Appollis stepped up under pressure and coolly slotted his spot-kick into the bottom corner, sealing the win and capping a commanding display worthy of his Man of the Match recognition.
