Tunisia midfielder Hannibal Mejbri has taken responsibility for his team’s draw against Tanzania in the Africa Cup of Nations, acknowledging a personal error that he believes affected the outcome.
The Group stage clash ended 1-1, a result that still secured progression to the round of 16 for both teams.
Speaking to beIN SPORTS, Mejbri said: “We wanted to win the match, but the most important thing was to qualify for the next round. We will now start working on the positives and negatives, and we will prepare for the round of 16 match. We hope that things will go well.”
Reflecting on his performance, he added: “We tried to keep possession of the ball in order to boost confidence, but I made a mistake, and there were many mistakes during the match, and I think that if I hadn’t made this mistake, we would have won the match.”
Addressing his habit of holding the ball during penalties, Mejbri explained: “No, I do that to help the penalty taker concentrate. I keep the ball and wait, but I am also ready to take the kick if I am asked to do so.”
