Egypt goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir and winger Ibrahim Adel shared emotional reactions after the Pharaohs’ 1–0 defeat to Senegal in the AFCON 2025 semi-final, but both promised to fight hard in the third-place match.
Egypt conceded in the second half and could not find a response in Tangier, ending their hopes of reaching the final.
Speaking to beIN Sports, Shobeir said the team gave everything they had and stressed that their goal was to make the Egyptian people and themselves happy, before accepting the result as part of God’s will. He reiterated his gratitude despite the disappointment, reflecting the dressing room’s mix of sadness and faith after a long campaign.
Ibrahim Adel echoed his teammate’s sentiments, explaining that the squad had wanted desperately to delight the fans but now must look forward.
He pledged that Egypt will “fight until the last breath” to deliver a strong performance in the third-place game and apologised to supporters for not achieving their main target.
Egypt will play for bronze against the loser of the Morocco–Nigeria semi-final, aiming to close the tournament on a positive note.
