Morocco head coach Walid Regragui has expressed confidence in his side’s ability to overcome Cameroon as they prepare for their Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final showdown.
The Atlas Lions are set to face Cameroon on Friday in a highly anticipated last-eight encounter, with Morocco aiming to continue their push for continental glory on home soil.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference, Regragui acknowledged the quality of the teams left in the competition but stressed his squad’s ambition to go deep in the tournament.
“All the strong teams have qualified for the quarter-finals, but we are striving to go far in this competition, which is being held on our home ground,” Regragui said.
The Moroccan coach was quick to highlight the challenge posed by Cameroon, pointing to their pedigree and experience at the Africa Cup of Nations.
“We know very well that the Cameroon national team has a lot of experience, and it is a team that needs no introduction in such tournaments. It will be a tough match against them, and we will work to present a good level to honor African football, as well as to reach the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations,” he added.
Regragui also addressed the pressure surrounding his team, noting that expectations have been high for some time.
“We put the pressure on ourselves. For a year and a half we have been saying that if we don’t win the title, it means we are not a strong team,” he said.
Despite that, he believes the atmosphere around the squad has been positive, particularly due to fan support.
