Egyptian football icon Mohamed Aboutrika has lavished praise on Morocco’s national team after their dramatic semi-final triumph over Nigeria at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Atlas Lions booked their place in the final with a 4-2 victory on penalties after a tense 120 minutes against the Super Eagles.
Reacting to the contest, Aboutrika described Nigeria as the toughest side in the tournament and commended Morocco for overcoming such a formidable opponent.
“You faced Nigeria, the toughest team in the competition. God willing, the final will be easier than the match against Nigeria. You deserve to be in the final after your outstanding performances throughout the tournament,” he said on beIN Sports.
Nigeria, meanwhile, settled for third place after defeating Egypt 4-2 on penalties in Saturday’s playoff at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.
Morocco will now turn their attention to the final against Senegal, scheduled for tonight at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, with kick-off set for 19:00 GMT.
