Moroccan authorities have arrested 118 people as part of a wide crackdown on black‑market ticket sales for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The campaign targets those who exploited the huge demand for matches played on home soil.
According to the Moroccan public radio and television website, the detainees are accused of speculating on match tickets and reselling them illegally at inflated prices. They were placed under investigation under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office.
The report explained that the security cyber‑monitoring system detected dozens of posts on social media offering AFCON tickets for sale in ways that violated official regulations and far above their original value.
The group stage of the tournament ended on Wednesday, with 16 teams booking their places in the round of 16. On the Arab level, Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria and Sudan all advanced, while Comoros exited from the first round.
The authorities’ tough stance sends a clear message that profiteering from fans’ passion through the black market will not be tolerated during this major continental event.
