Moroccan authorities in Marrakesh have detained an Algerian football fan accused of stealing a security officer’s wireless device during Algeria’s Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final against Nigeria.

Judicial police presented the supporter, identified by the initials (A.S), to the public prosecutor at the city’s primary court on Wednesday while he remained in custody.

The incident took place in the stands of Grand Stade de Marrakech last Saturday, where Algeria’s national team faced Nigeria in a tense knockout clash. According to Moroccan outlet le360, prosecutors ordered the fan to be held at Oudaya prison under pre-trial detention, with his court hearing scheduled to begin on Thursday.

The intervention came after a widely shared video appeared on social media, capturing the moment the suspect allegedly seized the security officer’s radio amid crowd pushing and jostling in the stands.

He is the third supporter so far to face charges in Morocco linked to incidents surrounding the Algeria–Nigeria match. On the pitch, the Desert Warriors exited the tournament after a 2–0 defeat, while the Super Eagles advanced to a semi-final showdown with hosts Morocco.
