Egypt captain Mohammed Salah is hoping that the Pharaohs will keep momentum at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after two straight wins at the tournament.
The record AFCON title holders narrowly defeated the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in their second Group B game on Friday, earning them qualification to the knockout stage.
Salah emerged as the hero, as he boldly converted from the spot to secure victory fir the North Africa football heavyweights. Before this match, Egypt had defeated Zimbabwe in their opening game, with Salah scoring the match-winner.
Speaking after the game, the former Chelsea and Roma star expressed his joy, while urging the side to keep momentum as the tournament unfolds.
“I’m happy with the result. It was tough, against a team capable of keeping possession for long. The stadium was almost full, and I’m proud to play in Morocco, surrounded by Egyptian & Moroccan fans. Atmosphere was amazing, I hope we continue moving forward this way.”
Egypt have secured a 5th consecutive qualification for the knockout stage of the Africa Cup of Nations, their best run in the competition since 1994-2002. The Pharaohs currently sit on top of Group B, accumulating six points after two games.
