Algeria’s Jaouen Hadjam has emphasised the importance of youth and experience in the national squad as the team prepares for their opening 2025 Africa Cup of Nations match against Sudan.
Speaking moments after the official press conference, the young full-back shared his thoughts with Dz Foot on preparation, mindset, and the desire to move past Algeria’s disappointments in recent tournaments.
Despite a short preparation period, Hadjam praised the coaching staff for their work in readying the team.
“In Morocco, we received a warm welcome, both at the airport and at the hotel.
We are in good conditions to play in this AFCON,” he said, reflecting on the positive environment and facilities provided to the squad.
Looking ahead to the first match, Hadjam stressed focus and respect for Sudan, whom Algeria recently faced at the Arab Cup.
“They are a good team from Sudan. We saw them at the Arab Cup. We approach this match like a new game and we want to do well, for the people and for ourselves.
We have this pride and this desire to show that after these last two editions, we can do well,” he said.
Hadjam also highlighted the blend of youth and experience within the squad, describing it as essential for success.
“We are quite a few young players, from the new generation. We are here to work hard. We don’t want to make the mistakes that others have made.
They are here to guide us. They bring us their experience and we are here to bring them our football and our desire to win titles with the national team,” he explained.
When questioned about the World Cup, Hadjam refocused on the immediate challenge, underlining Algeria’s priorities.
“We’re focusing on the Africa Cup of Nations, competition by competition, match by match, and I hope it goes well,” he said, reinforcing the squad’s determination to perform strongly at AFCON 2025.
Algeria’s opening fixture against Sudan marks a fresh opportunity to combine youthful energy with seasoned leadership, as the team looks to make a decisive impact in Group E.
