Semi Ajayi hailed Nigeria’s 2–1 victory over Tanzania as the ideal way to launch their AFCON 2025 campaign, after scoring the opener.
The defender powered in a first-half header from Alex Iwobi’s corner, setting the tone for a controlled Super Eagles performance in their Group C opener.
Ajayi admitted it was a special moment to find the net for his country in a tight, high-pressure game, especially with Nigeria determined to build on their strong run at the last tournament in Ivory Coast. He underlined that the team draws confidence from that previous campaign and now uses it as a standard for what they want to achieve in Morocco.
“It’s an amazing feeling to score for your country and in such a game it gives us the possibility of getting a good start. We had an amazing tournament in Cote D’Ivoire and we are using that as a standard,” he said.
“We are a team we don’t need to get goals only from the attackers and it’s pleasing to contribute to the success of the team. There are a lot of positives to take from the game and some things to fix and we will work on that to kill games going forward.”
