AFCON 2025 is the best ever I have seen – Tanzania coach Miguel Gamondi
Tanzania coach Miguel Gamondi has hailed the quality of football at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), despite his team’s exit in the Round of 16.
The Taifa Stars were knocked out by hosts Morocco after Brahim Díaz’s second-half goal ended their campaign. Yet, Gamondi expressed pride in his team’s performances and the overall standard of the tournament.
Speaking to Egyptian broadcaster On Sport, the Brazilian coach applauded both the organization and competitive level of the competition.
“This tournament is very good, and I am speaking here in terms of football and organisation. Africa is growing and developing in terms of football, and the level of matches is very good. Perhaps this cup was the best I’ve seen in my life,” he said.
Gamondi also commended his players for their character and determination during the group stage, where they faced established sides like Nigeria and Tunisia.
“The Tanzanian national team is a good team, and we know our ranking. We performed very well against Nigeria, Tunisia, and Uganda. I believe we played well in the group stage and fought until the last moment in the tournament.”
He further highlighted the team’s tactical approach, noting their commitment to attacking play.
“We had a very good tactical approach, and we tried to attack and play. The truth is, I am happy with the level we showed,” he added.
The AFCON semifinals are set to begin today, with Senegal taking on Egypt and Morocco facing Nigeria.
