Morocco star Brahim Diaz has admitted struggles during the penalty shootouts against Nigeria in the semi-final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
The Atlas Lions are in the final of the continental showpiece after triumphing over the Super Eagles on penalties following a pulsating goalless draw in both regular and extra time at the Prince Moulay Abdallah Stadium on Wednesday night.
Morocco has now set up a fierce final clash against Senegal, who narrowly defeated Egypt. The high-staked clash has been scheduled for Sunday, January 18, 2026, with victory crucial to securing the title.
Diaz last 107 minutes as his outfit defeated Nigeria to secure their first AFCON final since 2004 and third in history after 1998.
“I am fine and I was not injured against Nigeria, but my exit was due to physical exhaustion and this is normal.”
“I suffered a lot and my nerves were on edge during the penalty shootout, but the most important thing is that we achieved victory and we are now very happy with this achievement.”
“We are proud of what we have achieved, and now we only have one more step to take to lift the Africa Cup.”
Morocco and Senegal have won the continental showpiece just once in their football history and will be seeking for their second triumph in the high-stake final.
