The president of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has addressed circulating rumours suggesting potential refereeing bias in favour of Morocco ahead of Wednesday’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 semi-final clash.

The Super Eagles are set to face hosts Morocco at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in what promises to be a high-stakes encounter.

Speaking on the matter, Musa Gusau dismissed concerns about possible partiality, insisting that referees would act impartially.

“I do not share the same concerns expressed by some regarding bias against us… I do not see any situation in which referees could work against the interests of any team,” he said in an official statement.

He recalled Nigeria’s experience in Morocco during last summer’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, where the team overcame a two-goal deficit to defeat the hosts in the final.

“Last summer, we were here in Morocco during the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, and we played against the host country in the final, coming back from a two-goal deficit to win. We are not afraid of anything. This is the highest level of football on the African continent, and the referees know that CAF and the whole world are watching, and they will not do anything inappropriate.”

Kickoff for the eagerly awaited semi-final is scheduled for 20:00 GMT.
