Egypt forward, Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet, is not seeking for a revenge ahead of their crucial semi-final game against Senegal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Pharaohs defeated Ivory Coast 3-2 in the quarterfinals clash on Saturday at the Adrar Stadium in Agadir, setting up a tricky encounter against Senegal at the continental showpiece.
It promises to be a thrilling clash, as both teams will be yearning for victory to secure a place in the finals of the tournament, being held in Morocco.
The match between Egypt and Senegal is a repeat of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations final in Cameroon, where the Taranga Lions triumphed over the Pharaohs to clinch their first AFCON title.
Trezeguet has, however, downplayed the revenge talks against Senegal, stressing his outfit remain superior on the continent.
“I was there when we lost twice to Senegal on penalties and we were unlucky, but now there is a big difference, and the players know the value of the Egyptian national team jersey, and Hossam Hassan has given us a feeling that we have never felt before, which is the necessity of winning and raising the name of our country. We lost to Senegal twice, but Egypt’s history is well known, and our focus tomorrow is on making the Egyptian people happy.”
“There is no revenge in football, and our history proves that we are superior to any other team on the continent. Since our arrival, our goal has been to win the title, and it doesn’t matter who we face. From day one, I said that we would play every match as a final, and tomorrow we will play another final, and then we will think about the next match.”
Egypt last won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2010, defeating Ghana to annex their seventh title on the continent.
