Egypt captain Mohammed Salah has shared his excitement after inspiring his outfit to victory over South Africa at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations clash.
Salah, who plies his trade for Liverpool played a pivotal role by scoring the only goal of the match to secure maximum points for the Pharaohs, who are in search of their eight AFCON title in Morocco.
The pacey winger converted from the spot to record his second consecutive goal at the continental showpiece in the North Africa country. Before this match, Salah had scored the match winner against Zimbabwe.
Speaking after the game, the former Chelsea and Roma star expressed his joy, while urging the side to keep momentum as the tournament unfolds.
“I’m happy with the result. It was tough, against a team capable of keeping possession for long. The stadium was almost full, and I’m proud to play in Morocco, surrounded by Egyptian & Moroccan fans. Atmosphere was amazing, I hope we continue moving forward this way.”
Egypt have secured a 5th consecutive qualification for the knockout stage of the Africa Cup of Nations, their best run in the competition since 1994-2002. The Pharaohs currently sit on top of Group B, accumulating six points after two games.
