Egypt have received a major boost ahead of their AFCON 2025 quarter-final against Ivory Coast, with Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet declared fit to play after shaking off an ankle ligament injury.
The winger was hurt during the 3-1 Round of 16 win over Benin on Monday, raising fears he could miss Saturday’s high-stakes meeting in Morocco. Trezeguet, however, confirmed in Friday’s pre-match press conference that he has fully recovered and is ready to feature in the knockout showdown.
His words were backed up on the pitch, as he took part in Egypt’s latest training session without issues, completing the full workout and reinforcing his availability for coach Hossam Hassan and his staff. Egypt have also welcomed back midfielder Mohanad Lasheen, who has overcome a rib bruise suffered against Angola in the group stage.
The only absentee remains left-back Mohamed Hamdy, sidelined with a cruciate ligament rupture, meaning the Pharaohs will otherwise be close to full strength as they chase a semi-final spot against the defending champions.
