Egypt and Senegal both face key defensive absences ahead of their next Africa Cup of Nations assignment in Morocco, after a tense semi-final between the two giants.

The match guaranteed that both teams would play one more game, either the final or the third-place playoff, but it also brought costly bookings.

For Egypt, young defender Hossam Abdel-Maguid will miss the next clash after receiving a yellow card as early as the sixth minute for a heavy challenge on a Senegal player. His suspension is particularly significant given that several Pharaohs stars were already walking a disciplinary tightrope, including Mohamed El Shenawy, Ahmed Fatouh, Ramy Rabia, Marwan Attia and Hamdi Fathi.

Senegal suffered a similar fate, with captain Kalidou Koulibaly also ruled out of the next match following his second booking of the knockout stages, having first been cautioned late on against Mali.

Midfielder Habib Diarra likewise picked up a yellow card that confirmed his suspension, leaving the Lions of Teranga without two important pieces as both nations brace for one last high-stakes AFCON test.
