AFCON 2025: Cameroon sacks head coach Marc Brys THREE WEEKS before tournament in Morocco
Cameroon’s build-up to AFCON 2025 has been rocked by the dismissal of head coach Marc Brys just three weeks before the tournament kicks off in Morocco.
The Belgian’s exit comes after a long-running, fragile working relationship with FECAFOOT president Samuel Eto’o, marked by tensions over authority, communication and squad management.
The situation finally boiled over after renewed disagreements with the Ministry of Sports and the federation, leaving the Indomitable Lions without their original tactician on the eve of a major competition.
In Brys’ place, Eto’o has moved quickly to appoint David Pagou as the new head coach, with Martin Ndtoungou Mpile stepping in as Technical Director to form a new technical team at short notice.
The coaching shake-up has coincided with bombshell selection calls, including the omission of high-profile stars André Onana and Vincent Aboubakar from the final AFCON squad, decisions widely seen as deepening the sense of instability around the camp.
Cameroon now face a crucial test in Morocco, needing to regain focus and unity fast if they are to live up to the expectations of a football-mad nation despite the political storm swirling around their team.
