Head coach of Cameroon David Pagou says his players are determined to write their names in the annals of African football history as the team gears up for the quarterfinals showdown against Morocco.
The Indomitable Lions takes on the Atlas Lions in a high-stake clash on Friday, January 9, 2026, with both teams seeking for victory to secure a place in the semifinals.
Ahead of the clash, David Pagou has disclosed his charges are poised to write their names in the history books of African football.
“Morocco is currently at the top of the African national team rankings and the task will not be easy,” Pagou said at a pre-match conference.
“We must continue to focus, especially since the team includes a group of young players. The past does not guarantee the present, and we are fully focused before facing Morocco. The Cameroonian players want to write their names in the annals of African football history.”
“Morocco enters the match as the host country, in addition to having a distinguished group of players, not only on an individual level, but also in terms of harmony and teamwork, which gives the match a special character and an additional incentive for the Cameroonian team.”
“We realize the difficulty of the match, but we are determined to play it with a high competitive spirit. We will take on the challenge, and we will remain at the peak of our focus,” he concluded.
The winner of the Morocco-Cameroon match will play the semi-final against the winner of the Algeria-Nigeria match next Wednesday.
