Walid Regragui has delivered the news every Moroccan fan wanted to hear ahead of Sunday’s AFCON 2025 last‑16 clash with Tanzania at the Stade Prince Moulay Abdallah.
Achraf Hakimi, the team’s talismanic right-back, is fully fit and available after overcoming the injury that threatened his participation in the tournament, sending a surge of excitement through the Atlas Lions’ support.
Speaking about Hakimi’s status, Regragui explained the careful plan put in place over recent days. “Hakimi, we’ve always been clear. The objective was to gradually build him up through training sessions and matches. We did that against Zambia. Physically, he is ready,” the coach said, underlining that the PSG defender has come through his workload without problems.
Regragui confirmed the 27-year-old is not just fit, but firmly in his thoughts for the starting XI.
“He is fit to be in contention for tomorrow’s match. He can start. After that, it will be up to me to decide. We had the luxury of doing without him. Now we are entering the real competition,” he added, framing Hakimi’s return as a major boost at precisely the decisive stage of the tournament.
