Zambia head coach Avram Grant believes that the Morocco and DR Congo are the strongest teams in their group in the 2023 African Cup of Nations.
Grant emphasized the importance of being logical and realistic in their approach and acknowledged that Zambia is ranked third in the Group, indicating that there are two teams (Morocco and DR Congo) superior to them.
“We need to be logical. We are in the third classification in Africa, which means that there are two better teams than us in the group (Morocco and DR Congo).”
Grant also mentioned that while the Moroccan and Congolese teams are considered the best on paper, Zambia was able to defeat Ivory Coast in the qualifiers, despite them being considered stronger.
“The Moroccan and Congolese teams are the best on paper, but of course, Ivory Coast was also better than us, but we beat them in the qualifiers.”
Grant emphasized the need to assess their own team’s capabilities and work towards maximizing their potential.
Although they may not currently be at the top, Grant stated that their goal is to make the most of their team.
“We need to be very realistic, and look at what we have, and the team we have, and then we can get the best from our team, and even if we are not at the top at the moment, this is our goal.”
Zambia is placed in Group F of the tournament, alongside Morocco, DR Congo, and Tanzania. The African Cup of Nations will take place in Ivory Coast from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
