AFCON 2023: Ticket shortages plague Bingerville, disappointing fans amidst reselling concerns

Supporters in Bingerville faced frustration as they sought entry to witness the Ivory Coast and Nigeria clash. Despite assurances from the COCAN and CAF regarding the release of new physical tickets, fans were left empty-handed as supplies ran out at the Bingerville post office this morning.

This predicament has emerged as a significant challenge for the organizers, with many stadiums witnessing matches amid conspicuously sparse attendance due to ticket shortages.

Recognizing the urgency of the matter, COCAN and CAF initiated the sale of new tickets at 51 designated points of purchase.

The announcement spurred a rush among supporters eager to secure their access to the highly anticipated football encounters.

However, the scene at the Bingerville post office proved disheartening for Ivorian fans who had made the journey in anticipation of acquiring tickets for the Ivory Coast versus Nigeria showdown.

Much to their dismay, they were informed that tickets for this particular match were no longer available at the Bingerville location. A similar narrative unfolded at the Cité Rouge post office in Bassam.

In contrast, at the Abobo post office and in Koumassi, enthusiasts found a more favorable outcome as tickets were still on offer.

Nevertheless, a disconcerting aspect of the situation emerged, where certain individuals were found in possession of a substantial number of tickets, aiming to resell them at exorbitant prices.

This unscrupulous practice not only exploits the enthusiasm of genuine supporters but also casts a shadow on the reputation of AFCON 2023, an event aspiring to become the most illustrious in the history of the competition.

Addressing concerns about ticket reselling, it was reported that law enforcement authorities in Yamoussoukro took action by apprehending several individuals engaged in this practice.

The move is indicative of efforts to curb ticket-related malpractices and maintain the integrity of the prestigious African football spectacle.
