South African midfielder Sphephelo Sithole has emerged as a sought-after talent after his outstanding performance in the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023. The 24-year-old, who played a pivotal role in South Africa’s journey to the semi-finals, is now on the radar of a Serie A team, sparking anticipation of a potential move.
Sithole, currently with Tondela in the Portuguese second division, is set to depart from the club at the end of the season, seeking a higher level of competition reflective of his abilities showcased during AFCON.
His agent, Manuel Tomas, confirmed the intention to secure a transfer for Sithole, emphasizing the challenge posed by Tondela’s €3 million valuation.
“While the club desires €3 million, acquiring such an offer in the second division is quite challenging,” remarked Tomas in an interview with iDiski Times.
He further highlighted Sithole’s international acclaim, stating, “He is 24 years old, and everyone in Africa and the world knows that there is a good midfielder in the second league in Portugal, who has played very well against players in the Premier League or other major leagues.”
Tomas revealed that a Serie A proposal is currently on the table, underscoring the significance of Sithole’s impending move.
“There is a proposal in Serie A. As I said, he doesn’t deserve to play in the second division, and I have to do my best to keep him away from Tondela.”
Sithole’s remarkable journey through AFCON 2023 has elevated his profile, attracting attention from top-tier European clubs.
The potential move to Serie A marks a crucial step in his career, signaling the global acknowledgment of his talent and the promise of a bright future in one of the premier football leagues in the world.
