The Namibia national team have arrived in Ghana ahead of their preparations toward the continental showpiece in Ivory Coast next month.
The Brave Warriors touched down at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra on Thursday, December 28, 2023, where they will fine-tune before travelling to Ivory Coast for the tournament.
Indications were that some couple of national teams heading to Ivory Coast made some survey in Ghana to see where suitable could they pitch camp ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
With Ghana closer to Ivory Coast, the Namibian Football Federation thought it wise to establish their camping base here in Ghana in the Western region, which shares border with the tournament hosts.
This will help the squad acclimatize with the weather condition in Ghana, which is virtually the same as Ivory Coast.
Star man, Peter Shalulile of Mamelodi Sundowns, alongside Orlando Pirates’ winger Deon Hotto, in the team are the biggest names to have arrived with the team in Ghana.
Petrus Shitembi and Rudath Wendell are players who were among the squad that appeared in 2019 AFCON in Egypt alongside captain Denzel Hoaseb.
Head coach Collin Benjamin will prepare the team before they head to Ivory Coast, kicking off in a fortnight.
The Southern African country are making their 4th appearance at the AFCON.
Out of the three previous tournaments they appeared, two of them came in West Africa in Burkina Faso 1998 and Ghana 2008 with the other one in Egypt 2019.
Namibia are placed in Group E alongside Tunisia, Mali, and the country they share a border with, which is South Africa.
