Morocco national team captain Romain Saïss has expressed the challenges they face in their pursuit of reaching the semi-finals in every competition they participate in.
The Atlas Lions made history in Qatar during the 2022 FIFA World Cup after making it to the semi-finals, the first African side to ever do this.
This remarkable achievement has automatically made Morocco favourites to claim the ultimate prize at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.
In an interview with the BBC website, Saiss emphasized the importance of maintaining a high level of performance once it is achieved.
Saiss acknowledged that qualifying for the semi-finals is no easy task, but the Moroccan team is determined to push themselves further.
He stated that the national team does not feel pressured during the African Cup of Nations, as they have already experienced the taste of reaching the semi-finals and now aspire to achieve even more.
The captain also highlighted the intense pressure faced by the Côte d’Ivoire national team, particularly since they have the advantage of playing on their home soil.
Saiss pointed out that other strong teams, such as Senegal, Cameroon, Algeria, and Egypt, also possess great experience and pose significant challenges.
Saiss concluded by emphasizing the difficulty of all matches in Africa and the need for mental preparedness to go as far as possible.
He stressed the importance of being mentally strong and ready to face any obstacles that may come their way.
