AFCON 2023 – Gambia (Group C): The final list of Scorpions and jersey numbers

Ahead of the much-anticipated 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Gambia has unveiled its final squad along with the designated jersey numbers for each player. The announcement, made by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Sunday, brings clarity to the composition of the Scorpions as they prepare to face the challenges of Group C in Ivory Coast.

Head coach Tom Saintfiet’s decision to maintain a level of continuity is evident, as the majority of players who contributed to Gambia’s AFCON 2021 campaign have been included in the final list for this edition.

Leading the pack with the iconic number 10 jersey is Musa Barrow, signaling his pivotal role in the team’s offensive strategies. Ablie Jallow will continue to sport the number 3, while Omar Colley secures the number 5 position. Alieu Fadera retains the number 7 jersey, and Ebrima Darboe will be identified by the number 24 in AFCON 2023. Newcomers Ebrima Colley and Yankuba Minteh will proudly wear the numbers 19 and 20, respectively.

The Gambian delegation is scheduled to arrive in Ivory Coast on January 10, 2023, in alignment with the CAF program. Their inaugural match in AFCON 2023 is slated against Senegal on January 15, promising an exciting start to their tournament journey.
