Fit and ready, Zambia’s defender Frankie Musonda expresses his delight at rejoining the national team in preparation for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.
Musonda, who plies his trade with Scottish side Ayr United, missed out on the last two fixtures for the Chipolopolo due to injury.
Now fully recovered, he speaks with focus and enthusiasm about the challenges ahead.
“I am very excited. It was unfortunate to get injured in October, and it carried on into November.
I just missed out, but I have been back for six to seven weeks now,” stated Musonda, emphasizing his eagerness to contribute to Zambia’s AFCON campaign, as quoted by FAZ Media.
Addressing the formidable opponents in Zambia’s AFCON group in Ivory Coast, Musonda acknowledges the toughness of the competition.
“Very exciting group, tough opponents, that is why we all qualified to this stage.
Everyone is a good team; everyone knows what they are doing. Each game will be tough, but again, each game we think we can win, so very exciting, and we just have to concentrate.”
Musonda extends a call to Zambian football enthusiasts, urging them to rally behind the Chipolopolo during the tournament.
He expresses confidence in the team’s dedication and promises an unwavering focus on the task at hand. “We are going to be working very hard, and we will concentrate on the task at hand.
I am sure we will feel your support at home and on platforms like social media and staff like that. We are just hoping to make you proud,” he added.
In their preparation for AFCON, the Chipolopolo have established a pre-tournament camp in Saudi Arabia, where they are scheduled to play an international friendly against Cameroon on January 9.
Following this, the team will head to Ivory Coast on January 11, anticipating challenging encounters with Morocco, Congo DR, and Tanzania.
Zambia commences its AFCON campaign on January 17 against Congo DR, followed by a match against Tanzania four days later.
The group stage concludes for the Chipolopolo on January 24, where they face off against Morocco.
Frankie Musonda’s optimism and determination set the tone for Zambia’s aspirations in the prestigious tournament, and fans eagerly await the team’s journey on the African football stage.
